The Cars We Crush On: A Tale of Sexy Cars and Why We Want Them

Happy National Crush Day!
September 27, 2021 was National Crush Day, and while this would usually be the day that we bare our soul to that one person that we just can’t seem to get enough of, this time… we’re coming for some beautiful machinery.
Sexy cars aren’t a new thing. They have been around a long time, so we decided it was high time we made a list. Send this list to your actual crush — after all, Christmas is just around the corner.
If speed is the way to your heart, the list below will make it flutter.

1) Aston Martin Valkyrie
Listen y’all… this beauty is *chefs kiss* perfection. If you ever wanted to feel like a race car driver, this would be the one to do it. Aston Martin worked with Red Bull to make this the closest to a street legal Formula One car that there is. You’re looking at 1140 horsepower, and it goes from 0-60 in 2.9 seconds. There are only 150 of these stunning pieces of machinery that will ever be made, so getting your hands on one will require some Kanye West sorta pull but hey, a girl can dream, can’t she?

2) Porsche 911 Carrera
The first Porsche 911 was first debuted in 1963 and since then, very little has changed. Why upset perfection? The iconic design is recognized wherever you drive, and even people who aren’t car people know that’s a Porsche. I can see myself zipping around the Hollywood Hills, hair blowing in the wind, music up loud, with not a care in the world. This is the kinda car that makes you forget that you need to get groceries and pick up your kid from soccer, even if just for a moment.

3) 2021 Ferrari 812 Superfast
The moment I saw this car, I might have started to drool a little. It’s one of the most beautiful pieces of machinery I have ever laid my eyes on. Not only is it beautiful, but it is absurdly fast. I’m talking 0-100 mph in 2.9 seconds fast. It’s also rocking 12-cylinders under that hood and is the fastest road car Ferrari has manufactured, with the exception of the rear-engined special limited-series 12-cylinders.
I don’t know about you, but I can already feel the power behind the wheel of one of these. This Ferrari is one of those cars that makes you feel like a boss every time you look at it. It turns heads, just like you do, but for $335,000, that’s exactly what it should do.

4) Dodge Viper
I was first introduced to the Dodge Viper when Carroll Shelby drove a pre-production model as the Indianapolis 500 pace car in 1991 (which can be seen if you take the Basement Tour of the IMS Museum). Come to find out, the Viper wasn’t even going to be available until January of 1992. Dodge asked Lamborghini (which was owned by the Chrysler Corporation at the time) to help with the design of the iconic sports car. The Viper went from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds.
My favorite thing about the Viper? It looks like a fancy sports car, but I could actually afford it. Sadly the Viper was discontinued in 2017 due to airbag safety issues. Like a bad boy boyfriend, the Viper is dangerous and intriguing, but you know there are better options out there. Doesn’t mean you still done want stare at him for a minute or two.

5) Jaguar F Type
The symbol is iconic, and since there isn’t a Cougar model, I guess the Jag will have to do.
But really, just look at it. You can’t tell me that you don’t just fall in love at first glance. I’m not sure if its the sleek headlights or the luxurious leather interior that does it for me, but man, this one is hard to resist. It doesn’t hurt that this sports car is actually in a price range that is doable! The fact that there is no lag in its 444 horsepower is also very appealing. This is the kind of car that, when you come out of Target, you find other people standing around it, just admiring its beauty.

6) 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
This beauty had a resurgence of popularity when she hit the big screen as Eleanor in the movie “Gone in 60 Seconds” with Nicholas Cage. Regardless what you think of Nic’s acting skills, you can’t deny the beauty and power this classic Mustang has. She’s fast, she sounds like an animal, and she makes you wanna rip through the back alleys of LA all while outrunning a drug kingpin.Oh wait.. that’s the movie.
Anyway — she’s a classic beauty, one that you never get tired of looking at. She has a sense of pride about her, knowing that she’s as unique as they come. Yup, she’s a keeper.

7) 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback
Now, I try hard to give all the manufactures a chance here but.. this is it. This is the one. This is the one I’d drop all things for, jump in the driver’s seat, and just drive.
Just looking at this Fastback (now known as the Mach 1) gives me chills. This is my ultimate crush. When I realize that, in its day, the base price for this amazing car was only $2,848, I die a little inside, thinking how affordable it would be today.
With 250 horsepower and 0-60 in 8 seconds, it’s a little slower than its counterparts mentioned above but there’s just something about this car that does it for me. It looks a little mean, but if you treat it right, it will take you everywhere your heart desires… which feels awfully relatable if you’re me.
