11 Things You’ll Have to Get Used to When You Drive a Lamborghini Urus Supercar
Everyone who sees you in the Lamborghini Urus will think you’re a rock star. They look longer at the car, and you can see them trying to see who’s in the driver’s seat. They watch you as you get out and hand the key to the valet. They drive by slowly at traffic lights so they can get a better look at you, or the car.
Feeling like a star is just the first thing you’ll have to get used to if you decide this is the car for you, which, after you’ve driven it, you can see; even with a starting price of $229,000, it’s a very special supercar. After driving the Urus S, a twin turbo V8 that produces 666 HP, it’s easy to see why it’s Lamborghini’s most popular model; 60% of Lamborghinis sold last year were Urus SUVs.
She’s a special beast and she demands a special owner. This is what you need to know if she’s on your dream list.
You’ll See Your Tribe On Approach and Departure
Lamborghini’s signature taillights and headlights, slim, glowing and arrow-like, are iconic from hundreds of yards away. They are easy to pick out in traffic, even in the daytime. I saw a few Urus during my test drive and the lights were the giveaway, telling me to get ready to share a knowing glance with the other driver.
This was my first time driving a Lamborghini, and this is what it was like.
The Lamborghini Urus Makes You Feel More Like a Pilot Than a Driver
And that’s not a bad thing at all, though it may be overwhelming at first. Take a moment, don’t be afraid to ask someone to show you around and soon, you’ll find every thing you need is at your fingertips. And, driving it will feel second nature because most functions you need are on the steering wheel.
A dedicated climate panel allows you to quickly tap temperature and fan settings, or use the voice activation button on the steering wheel to quickly turn up the air. A head up display puts key information such as speed and navigation in your field of vision. That way you never have to take your eyes off the road or your hands off the wheel. Until you want to turn this supercar into a track beast. That’s the next thing you’ll have to get used to: Learning to drive like a pro.

You’ll Feel Like an Italian Race Driver
We expect the roar of a performance engine to make us feel the excitement of a track, but Lamborghini goes beyond with a start-up procedure and stages of sport mode that add to the thrill. Lift the red aluminum door and, with your foot on the brake, push the start button, and lower the door. Strada, or street mode, is the default. For more power, pull the Anima lever to put the car in Sport and pull it twice for Corsa, or track mode; this turns off traction control. Pull it three times for Neve, or snow mode; this is essentially all wheel drive.
If you really want to customize your drive, pull the Ego bar to set your level of suspension, steering and engine to normal, sport or off.
From there, some settings are obvious: “P” for park; “M” for manual (or, just pull the paddle shifters for manual) and pull the lever marked “R” back for reverse. But something is missing. There’s no “D” mode. Pull the paddle, either one, for drive, as is done in Lamborghini’s sports coupes.
You Can Customize Your View
A performance-focused car demands driver feedback and Lamborghini doesn’t skimp. In addition to the head up display, drive settings and center screen, you can customize the driver display, too. Using a button on the steering wheel you can add navigation or performance displays so you always know where you stand.

Settle In and Enjoy the Ride In These Seats
Lamborghini has outfitted the Urus with sport seats that hold you tight with side and thigh bolsters. Ours was upholstered in red leather with white stitching—though, buyers have a wide range of leather colors and accents to choose from—and cutouts in the seats mean you can install racing harnesses for days on the track. And so you never forget where you are, the Lamborghini Raging Bull logo is embroidered on the headrest.

Everyone Will Want a Ride, and You’ll Have Room
This might be the nicest thing about the Urus: It feels great when you’re alone, but you can bring a friend, or four, and all your stuff. There’s a place to put your handbag or backpack, there’s a place to put your shopping bags, and if you head out on the road, your luggage. And the panoramic sunroof gives the cabin an open, airy feeling for those days when you need more air, or light.

You Can Even Say Yes to Kids Car Seats—We Measured!
The rear seat is nice and wide and I had plenty of leg room; I’m 5’8″ and found the seat very comfortable. But would there be enough room for a child car seat? I measured 30″ from seat back to seat back behind the driver’s seat (which was set for me), which means even a rear facing child seat will fit. Forward facing seats should be very easy, too. But all that is conditioned on one thing: A really tall driver or front seat passenger, say anyone over 6’4″, may eat up all the rear seat legroom. So plan accordingly.
You Don’t Have to Compromise on Luggage or Shopping
This may be the single best compromise in the Lamborghini family: Sports car performance with the space and conveniences of an SUV. In the sports cars there is almost no space for anything, even the smallest handbag. In the SUV, that isn’t even an issue. The cargo space has nearly 22 cubic feet of space; we fit two roll-aboard suitcases, two tote bags, a backpack and still had plenty of room for the shopping haul. Overall, whatever you need, you should be able to figure it out.

Yes, Bring Your Best Clutch; There’s a Spot For It
This little nook is just under the climate panel on the center console. Lamborghini’s designers carved out a small space so you can tuck away something important. A phone, perhaps, or a small crossbody bag. I loved being able to tuck my bag right here and grab it as I left the car. It’s just brilliant.
You’ll Love Shopping For Your Lamborghini- But Not the Sticker Shock
Buying a dream-worthy supercar should be a good experience, right? Lamborghini understands that and offers a huge array of choices—56, actually—and they can come at a price. Then, you need to pick an interior color, including stitching, as well as your wheels, a steering wheel choice, floor mats and more. Some choices cost more than others. On our test model the Grigio China paint brought an additional $21,340; the red leather interior added $5,964; ambient lighting added $3,194 and the gloss black Taigete wheels added $5,467. Total price, with $3,995 delivery was $294,301.
Driving the Lamborghini Urus is a dream; it’s fast and confident; it’s loud, even in Strada mode, and it’s powerful, which you feel even crawling along in slow traffic. It’s designed for track driving but has conveniences for every day life. And it’s for those who dream big. So it getting used to driving a Lamborghini Urus isn’t a challenge, it’s living the dream.
