The Lamborghini Revuelto Plug-in Hybrid Is Full of Win
The first time I drove a Lamborghini, I fell in love with its sleek, powerful precision. Could the plug-in hybrid Lamborghini Revuelto add even more excitement? I had to find out.
Electric Power Boosts the Roar of this Supercar
The first time I drove a Lamborghini was in 2017, when I was invited to test the Aventador on a track south of Fort Worth, Texas. It was so sleek and powerful; I relished every lap and found myself pushing it as fast as possible on the straightaway. Since then, every time someone asks me to name my favorite car, it has been an easy answer: the Lamborghini Aventador S.
I’ve driven a few Lamborghini models since then, including the Urus SUV and the Huracán in the Movember parade in Austin. Yes, those are fun, but nothing could beat the roaring V12 of the Aventador.
Until now.

Powered by Many Horses
The Raging Bull, as Lamborghini is known worldwide and as is pictured in the brand’s logo, just launched its first-ever plug-in hybrid. No one should be surprised that the new Revuelto is superlative inside and out, delivering on the promise of the new Lamborghini while celebrating its legacy. We’re talking about 1,001 horsepower here, which is 232 more ponies than my beloved Aventador S. And it’s spectacular to drive.

No More Boys-Club-Only Vibes
I got to pilot the Revuelto on the Autodromo Vallelunga circuit just outside of Rome, coached by Lamborghini’s chief test driver Mario Fasanetto. Using the paddle shifters, I pushed the Revuelto mercilessly after a few practice laps. As I’d get to a straightaway, I’d hear Fasanetto say, “Push it!” in my helmet earpiece, and I touched 130 miles per hour, exhilarated.
While it’s true that the typical Lamborghini owner (or any supercar owner, in fact) has been traditionally male, that doesn’t mean the automaker isn’t interested in its female customers. It has been almost a decade since CEO Stephan Winklemann told Autocar India, “We would be happy if the Huracán would find many female customers. We have lots of women who love Lamborghinis, but very few who drive them. The Huracán could change that.”

Families Love Lambos Too
Certainly, the Huracán is an exciting supercar with brawny, muscular lines that some might consider masculine, but more women are flipping the script. What has been a boys’ club in the past is expanding slowly but surely.
Lamborghini’s Urus SUV is a part of that, and the vehicle has been a runaway success for the brand as it opens up opportunities for families to enjoy the roar of a supercar with the kids in tow. The latest version, the Urus Performante, can zip from zero to 60 miles per hour in about three seconds and boasts 657 horsepower.

Designed for Power
The Revuelto is designed to appeal to the next generation. While its all-electric range is limited to six miles, currently, the hybrid powertrain isn’t made just for efficiency. It’s actually designed for power, as the three electric motors are the real force pushing the V12 to higher levels.
Engineering that Impresses in the Lamborghini Revuelto
Even if you’re not a fan of driving fast or of angular supercars, you can appreciate the engineering genius behind this beast. I’ve interviewed Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini’s chief technology officer, several times, and his passion for the brand is contagious.
He speaks quickly, with a boyish grin that reveals his excitement about each product the Raging Bull makes. It’s almost impossible to keep up as he tells me about the Revuelto, but his enthusiasm never wanes; Mohr deeply understands how the car works and is as much a fanboy as any other Lamborghini fanatic.

Everyday Dreaming of the Lamborghini Revuelto
In fact, Mohr remembers having a poster of a purple Lamborghini on his wall when he was growing up. He’s honestly thrilled that he gets to work with his own fantasy cars.
“Now I have the possibility and the opportunity to influence this kind of dream because, at the end of the day, every Lamborghini is a dream,” he tells me.
I get it. The Revuelto, priced at more than $600,000, is a pipe dream for most of us. Getting just a taste of it is a privilege I treasured and can’t wait to try again someday.
