On the Track or in the Suburbs, the Lexus RC F Is Just Plain Fun

Track or highway, the RC F can do it all—in style.

Lexus might make a track-ready trim of the RC F that competes in the Nürburgring 24 Hours and the SportsCar Championship in the USA, but you can buy this car for everyday driving—and it will make you fall in love with your commute.

I have come to love car sounds this year: the growl, the vroom vroom, the sounds a good get-up-and-go merging on the highway makes, or popping off the line—carefully up to the speed limit—at a light. The RC F makes you want to turn off the stereo to hear it every time!

Speaking of stereo though, the premium Mark Levinson 17-speaker system which is a $2,725 option is amazing and worth it. I could feel the bass through my whole body as I drove on the California freeways from LAX to Fontana’s Auto Club Speedway and down to San Clemente, then back to LAX. It’s just one of the many things that makes this luxury coupe so worth the cost.

Five reasons you may just want to splurge on this sports car for your daily commute

1. Powerful motor

If you’re looking for a powerful drive with maximum handling capabilities, look no further. This is a 5L V8 that pumps out 472 horsepower and 395 lb-feet of torque. It will get from 0-60 in 4.1 seconds, so there is no need to worry about passing, merging, or enjoying the ride. This car has tons of get-up-and-go, and every ounce of its power is well used. It just might take a little getting used to if you haven’t handled a sporty machine n a while.

With Sport and Sport+ modes, your handling will feel even more track-ready, and there is even launch control in the RC F if you’d like to further refine your driving.

2. Sport exterior styling

The exterior styling is so sleek and sporty looking. The rear spoiler pops up automatically, but there is also a button to activate it. Driving the Lexus RC F, you just feel like you’re meant to be on a track somewhere. And coming out to see it in your driveway or in the parking lot will never get old.

3. Racing seats

The seats are stunning to look at, supportive, and feel like a hug. However, I’m 5’1″, and I felt like the side bolstering was constantly in my armpit. and the seat ‘wings’ blocked my shoulder check view. I love these seats to look at, but for driving they didn’t really fit me. They would be perfect for someone a few inches taller than me.

4. That sound you feel in your bones

Yes, the Mark Levinson 17-speaker audio is an expensive option, but it was worth it! I felt the bass through my whole body and simply enjoyed the sound so much. Some stereos sound loud and hurt your ears, but this was just clean and crisp with excellent surround sound you could feel.

And that’s not even mentioning the gorgeous growl of the engine. Rev this bad boy and you’ll start wondering if you aren’t actually a certified Danica Patrick.

5. Powerful Brembo brakes and painted calipers

I have this thing for painted brake calipers suddenly—you know the things on the disc of the brakes? The ($300 option) Brembo orange metallic calipers are sharp looking and unique as well, while the function of Brembo brakes is top-of-the-line braking capability. I love things that are as beautiful as they are functional, and these Brembo brakes are exactly that.

Who is this car for?

  • You! Whether it’s your main commuter or a weekend addition, the RC F could be for anyone looking to enjoy their drive.
  • Single in the city. There’s no better way to live the single life than driving a fast car in the fast lane!
  • Looking for a fun drive and don’t need the back seat? This one’s for you.

What else did we love?

  • I love the sound of the exhaust when on the throttle while accelerating, both inside and outside the car
  • The quick responsiveness to merge and pass on busy California highways
  • The comfortable and sexy racing seats
  • Launch control and Sport+ mode
  • The sleek exterior with the pop-up spoiler
  • The unique touch controls for climate control

What This Car Costs

The base RC F starts at USD $65,875. Add the Premium package for $4,875, and it includes driver’s seat memory, heated steering wheel, intuitive parking assist, rear-seat center armrest with trunk pass-through, leather-trimmed interior, heated and ventilated front seats, auto-dimming outside mirrors with auto tilt-down in reverse, power tilt and telescoping steering column and rear-seat console with cupholders.

The total as driven with the $595 Infrared color is USD $72,370 including destination/delivery.

Full disclosure: The Lexus RC F was provided for review by Lexus for a few days in Los Angeles. All opinions are my own.
