Toyota Recalls: Flaws in Three Popular Models

Different Defects Lead to Three Toyota Recalls

Toyota recalled over half a million vehicles in three separate recalls. The largest recall affects Sienna minivans from 2004 to 2011. In cold weather climates, road salt can rust the spare tire carrier and the tire can fall off.  This is the second recall of the same problem; the 2010 recall added a splash protector, but that can fall also off and the carrier will still rust.

Second Recall

A Lexus recall, of 2013 GS 250 and 350 sedans is because the car can suddenly brake. When this happens the brake lights don’t illuminate and another car can rear end the Lexus.

Third Recall

2014 Toyota Highlander and Highlander hybrid SUVs were recalled for a software malfunction in the airbags. All front seat passengers can all be detected as small and light, so airbags won’t deploy for larger passengers.

Dealers will make fixes to any of these vehicles for free. There have been no reports of accidents, injuries or deaths involving any of the three recalls.
