Even a petite girl can do it all in a pickup. We love that!

It’s no secret why we love pick-up trucks: You can haul, you can tow, you have height, muscle and capability. You are badass. So we were beyond excited to get a sneak peek at the all new 2019 RAM 1500 at an event in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Let’s just say we fell in love with the Phoenix/Scottsdale area and the  all on one trip.

First things first, RAM pickup trucks are no longer referred to as Dodge Ram trucks. That’s right! RAM became a separate brand in 2009 when Chrysler was acquired by Fiat S.p.A. The two brands were separated so RAM could focus attention on trucks and Dodge could focus on performance cars. This singular focus has resulted in a newly designed and refined full-size pick-up truck in the 2019 RAM 1500!

Customers Asked and RAM Delivered!

The RAM 1500 is a great looking pickup truck.  One of the exterior design changes that contributes to this is the front end with the RAM logo inserted into the grille of the truck. In previous models, this was not an aesthetic element on every model. Now it is! This gives the grille a strong, sleek and even more aggressive look especially on the ‘Limited’ model/trim level.

Posh Spice or Sporty Spice? There’s a RAM Model for Everyone

The RAM 1500 is a durable, capable an attractive pickup truck great for your everyday truck duties like hauling, towing cargo or picking up yard supplies from Home Depot. But a few extra details can mean there’s a model for every type of pick-up truck fan.  If you’re the adventure seeker, the weekend off-road type of girl, the ‘Rebel’ is the model for you.

The ‘Rebel’ is for off-road fans with it’s new 4X4 off-road package with ‘Elocker’ electronic rear differential which gives it stronger, stable off-road performance. This is standard on the ‘Rebel’ model and optional on the other models. And a new air suspension system and additional 2-inch ride height for higher ground clearance gives the ‘Rebel’ even greater off-road ability. The ‘Rebel’ is built to handle any off-road adventure you can dream up.

If you’re the type of girl that loves all of that plus a little ‘Bling’ on her pickup truck (that’s me) then the ‘Limited Edition’ is the model for you. It’s rugged enough to pick up and haul furniture during a move but when detailed, gorgeous enough for a special event at the White House.

The ‘Limited Edition’ is capable but it also has luxury elements that make it comfortable while functional.  Especially in the ‘Delmonico Red Pearl’ exterior color or ‘Billet Silver Metallic.’ Simply stunning!

But (there’s always a but) if I were buying today, I would purchase the ‘Laramie Longhorn Edition,’ in the ‘Diamond Black Crystal Pearl-Coat’ exterior color with the new black and saddle interior color scheme (pictured below). It’s the perfect blend of functionality, ruggedness, luxury, and beauty in a pick-up truck.

RAM’s designers paid a lot of attention to the interior details and they are simply stunning!  The logo stamp/branding on the panel above the glove box is unique on every ‘Laramie Longhorn Edition’ because it’s hand stamped.

My favorite interior detail in this model is the saddle detailing on the seat-back pockets. Isn’t this clever?

Let’s Talk About Tech, Baby!

The RAM, like many trucks, is not just a pick up truck, it’s a work truck, and that means that buyers do a lot of work in it as well as with it. Work as in: laptops, files, phones and more, so the RAM is outfitted like an office on wheels. The center console is big enough to hold a laptop or two–or a really gorgeous handbag. The top of the armrest slides to reveal a storage cubby that is also large enough to hold a laptop, or a phone or two. That’s because there are USB ports for every seat.

Should I say that again? USB ports for every passenger, 5 in all. There is also:

  • Beautiful 8.4 and 12-inch touchscreen displays. The 12 inch is by far the best (pictured below).
  • 360 degree surround view camera
  • No more tedious typing! Available navigation system with voice-controlled destination entry & enhanced 3-D map graphics
  • Android Auto & Apple Car Play enabled
  • Wireless charging dock
  • USB-C ports for charging laptops and tablets
  • A household plug, because you can’t have enough power!

Other Features We Love

The RAM 1500 offers more than 100 safety features, including:

  • Adaptive cruise control with stop, go and hold technology
  • Forward collision warning-plus.
  • Blind spot monitoring.  The blind spot monitoring also monitors the trailer if you have a trailer hitched.
  • ‘Rear Cross Path’ and ‘Trailer Detection’ scans the blind spot zones behind the vehicle to help ensure safer maneuvering, while automatically sensing and accounting for the length of the trailer.  This ensures that you don’t hit another car with your trailer when changing lanes (which I almost did).
  • Second-row slide reclining seats
  • True flat load floors with built-in ‘RamBins’ for additional storage space. We love this feature because it gives you secured out of sight storage for tools or electronics, which is great on work sites or shopping trips.

Yes! I Can Tow That For You.

Let’s touch on towing performance for a minute. If you need a pickup that can tow just about anything, the RAM 1500 delivers. The 2019 RAM 1500 has 2,300 lbs. of payload to accommodate both passengers and cargo in the truck bed, and 12,750 lbs. of towing capacity, the most for any truck of this class.

The ride has also been improved significantly thanks to the next generation, class-exclusive air suspension system which also helped to improve the overall fuel efficiency. Even on the off-road course, The RAM 1500 doesn’t feel like a pick-up truck; it was a super comfortable ride.

What’s That’s Gonna Cost, Mrs. Lansing?

So you’re probably wondering what is all of this rugged, functional pickup truck beauty gonna set me back?  Starting prices for our favorite trim/model levels are:

  • Rebel – $47,495.00
  • Laramie Longhorn – $55,190.00
  • Limited  $59,285.00
  • All in, with every feature and luxury, just under $70,000

And for the double duty – badass capability and a comfortable luxurious ride that doesn’t make you feel like you’re in a pick up– the 2019 RAM 1500 delivers. And makes us like big trucks even more.

Disclosure:  I was RAM’s guest for the 2019 RAM 1500 press event; travel and accommodations were provided.  All opinions are my own.
