I’m a Millennial Mom – Here’s 10 Reasons Why I Love My Acura RDX
The 2021 Acura RDX is an affordable compact luxury SUV that Millennial moms like me need. Here are 10 reasons why I love mine.
I am a Millennial mom; hear me roar.
Well, the engine of my 2021 Acura RDX SH-AWD luxury SUV, that is.
The roar of the engine is a sound that equates to fun and freedom. Millennial moms, like me, crave these things when we want a brief escape from the daily routines of motherhood.
The Acura RDX is a chic compact luxury SUV. I chose it due to its elegant and classy look. It compliments my style as a millennial mom who loves nice things but also prefers affordability. The RDX was designed with features to make it perfect for everyday use. Combine comfort with practical amenities like storage, advanced technology, and safety features and you have everything that families like mine need.
2021 Acura RDX SH-AWD: A Family Car for Moms Who Want Affordable Luxury
The Top 10 Reasons Why I Love My 2021 Acura RDX SH-AWD Luxury SUV
1. 5-star rated reliability and safety I can rely on.
The safety and reliability of a vehicle are paramount when choosing your next car. I was confident in my decision when I choose the 2021 Acura RDX SH-AW because of its 5-star safety rating from the NHTSA, as well it earning Top Safety Pick+ rating. It also has features that are specifically designed for the needs of moms on the go. With the safety features listed below, moms like me can rest assured that their families are protected while on the road.
- Blindspot monitoring
- Multi-View Rear Camera with Dynamic Guidelines
- Lane Keeping Assist System
- Road Departure Mitigation System
- Forward Collision Warning System
- Lane Departure Warning System
- Auto High-Beam Headlights
- LED Daytime Running Lights
2. I can see clearly now with the multiview rear camera
Initially, I swore I needed a 360° rear camera because that is what I was used to having. However, the multiview rear camera on my 2021 Acura RDX SH-AWD impressed me quite a bit, especially with how clear it is. I can clearly see what’s behind me when backing up, which becomes helpful when in a busy grocery store parking lot, helping me to avoid incoming shopping carts at all costs.
3. Installing car seats is a breeze!
The LATCH connectors in the rear outboard seats are easy to find (and hide), making it easy to install child safety seats and hide them when seats are not in use. This leads to fewer broken nails and skinned fingers. Ouch! While I only need to secure two child safety seats, I can rest assured should the time arise, I can install a second. Or a third using the rear middle seat’s tether anchor.
4. Storage, storage, everywhere!
The Acura RDX is not lacking storage. There are many places to store your things, your kids’ things, and even hide Christmas and birthday presents thanks to the 20 cubic feet of cargo space in the underfloor storage. It’s honestly one of my favorite features.
In total, the 2021 Acura RDX has a maximum of 79.8 cubic feet, with 29.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat, and 58.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.
In addition to the storage the cargo has to offer, there are 10 cupholders. The majority of which are located in the rear and this is perfect for my tiny passengers, especially when we’re on one of our many road trips.
5. Easy to clean black leather interior
Kids are messy! Having black leather seating was a must-have for me when choosing my vehicle. Why? Leather seating tends to perform better than cloth or upholstered seats. Leather seats are so easy to clean and it hides any trace of dirt – from scuffs to crumbs to sticky spills. Trust me, with a toddler and an 11-year-old, I’ve had my fair share of messes to clean. Honestly, most of the messes were on my 11-year-old’s side of the car. Go figure!
6. One word you need to know: AcuraLink
I’ve come to enjoy the benefits of Acura’s proprietary app that turns my smartphone into a hub to remotely control my vehicle and access any information about it at any time and anywhere. AcuraLink allows me to do everything from checking the health of my RDX (oil life, tire pressure, fuel range), to locking and unlocking it, as well as remotely starting my RDX.
Not having remote start was a dealbreaker for me. AcuraLink allows me to warm my 2021 Acura RDX SH-AWD during New York’s cold winters and cool it down during our unbearably hot and humid summers. There is nothing like entering a perfectly climate-controlled vehicle no matter the outside temperature. This feature is especially important in the summer months when you have kids.
Other AcuraLink features I appreciate having are:
- Security alarm alert
- Service scheduling
- Roadside assistance
- Stolen Vehicle locator
- Geofencing
7. Heated seats are my heating pads on the go
Moms need heated seats! Our backs have suffered through carrying children through pregnancy and beyond. Heated seats are the perfect remedy to help with lower back pain experienced in our daily lives as moms. I enjoy using the heated seat feature during the winter and even in the summer with my A/C on blast. Without the kids in the car, with the radio playing my favorite tunes, and the heated seats activated, I am on my way to zen, even if it’s only for a few minutes.
8. Multimedia and connectivity
Trust me, this is not a trick question, but, how do you keep kids from fighting in the car? You ensure your car has an awesome multimedia system and can connect and charge multiple devices. My 2021 Acura RDX SH-AWD is equipped with the following:
- 10.2-inch multimedia display
- wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- nine-speaker stereo
- SiriusXM satellite radio
- Wi-Fi hot spot
- three USB ports (two in the back where the kids need it most)
- Bluetooth
My husband and I can listen to our favorite radio stations, while our kids are in the back on their own devices watching their favorite shows and/or playing games. With many options to keep our devices charged, no one is fighting when our device batteries began to run low.
Wi-fi accessibility means my husband or I can work while the other is driving. As a working mom, this is especially important for me.
9. The calm that comes with the panoramic moonroof
While I initially purchased the RDX with a panoramic moonroof because I love how it opens up the vehicle, making it feel less compact. I do love that it helps calm my toddler when she’s fussy. The panoramic moonroof opens up to allow her to watch the rain hit the glass, or stargaze during evening drives. The way it calms her is like magic.
10. Premium gas is optional
While premium gas is recommended due to the Acura RDX SH-AWD being a performance vehicle (the ‘SH’ stands for sports handling) it’s not necessary. While racing between schools, daycare, work, and errands may feel like you’re in Nascar, most moms are not doing performance driving. Therefore, mid-range, top-tier gas should be okay. Plus, with the cost of gas these days, you’ll want to pack in the savings in any way you can so you can spend your money on fun things to do with your family.
Premium Gas vs Regular Gas for Your Car’s Performance
Contrary to what the media tells you about millennials, we enjoy nice things but we enjoy them more when it’s affordable. This is why, as a millennial mom, the 2021 Acura RDX SH-AWD is the perfect compact luxury SUV for me. While there may be many other luxury SUVs on the market that promise you luxury, they come with a hefty price tag. The Acura RDX has all the features I need in a luxury SUV as a mom. The Acura RDX is the least expensive model in its class. The cabin is trimmed in high-quality materials like leather-trimmed sport seating, and intuitive safety and technology. It’s also fun to drive. That’s important too because even though I am a mom, I still enjoy a fun-to-drive vehicle.
