We Deserve This, And So Do You: Meet Victoria Scott
Design, dirt, Pride, road trip packing and more in our Weekly Rewind!

I love cars, so don’t get me wrong when I say the last thing I need is a another coffee table book about cars. I don’t love cars that way. I’m more of a ‘what can a car do for me‘ fan rather than a ‘oooohhh all that horsepower‘ fan.
But if a car can make me look good and look good doing it, I’m all in. Which is what I love about Victoria Scott’s book We Deserve This: A Transfeminine Lookbook. The book is a compilation of beautiful vintage cars and beautiful outfits worn by trans women.
A lookbook is a staple in fashion, but in cars, not so much, so the idea of an automotive lookbook immediately got my attention. Victoria’s book is a loveletter to car culture filled with cool cars, beautiful locales and bold women. But the boldest of them all? Victoria’s mission to tell car stories in a new light that reminds us, cars aren’t just for the boys.

Know A Girl Who’d Rather Have Dirt than Diamonds?

If you do, then think about giving her a lifted off-roader instead of a ring. That’s the advice from Kristen Brown who has spent the last few years restoring her uncle’s beloved lifted Jeep Wrangler. And as she did that, a funny thing happened: She started to notice a lot of other women driving around in lifted SUVs. So, she put out a call to find out why and realized that they, too, seek the sense of freedom, the thrill of accomplishment in doing something yourself and the dream of getting off the pavement and out in the wild.
Kristen gives us 5 reasons women love lifted SUVs and of course, there are gazillion more reasons, but we don’t have all day. We have trails to ride!

Did You Know Your Car Can Prevent Distracted Driving?

They say that distracted driving is as dangerous as drunk driving: Both are a form of impairment, though distraction is easily correctible, whereas alcohol impairment is not.
As we started to think about the dangers of distracted driving we also started to talk about the features in a car that can reduce distraction. ‘Eyes up and out’ is actually a design goal for many car makers who are implementing easier and quicker-to-see screens and adding systems like head up display and voice activated assistance. Even more, cars are here for you to keep you safe on the road. Isn’t that a nice thing?

What Drives Her Podcast: Meet Automotive Journalist Victoria Scott

This is a tough time for trans people and writer Victoria Scott can attest, the challenge to be authentically who you are can be unending and difficult. That’s not exactly what I thought we would talk about when we opened our computers to record our latest podcast; I hoped she would share some insights on her journey, but it can be a painful topic. I did, however, expect we’d talk about cars, design and her latest book (see our top story!), which we did. We also talked about people, acceptance and of course, cars.
And then, there’s this final story that she shared toward the end of our chat, one that surprised and made me giggle with delight. I’m not going to give it away, but I’ll just say this: She shares the good, the bad and the dudes who are drawn to her cars.
Enjoy the conversation with Victoria Scott!

Are You Road Trip Ready? Holli Fourniquet Has Tips For You

This is a topic we just don’t get tired of: How to pack the car for a road trip. Maybe because there’s never a perfect solution, maybe because the things we carry continue to evolve—smaller bags, better coolers, cooler beach chairs—and because our people are generally not hte same size year to year.
But one thing never changes: The need to pack it all in the car and hit the road. So here’s a primer from Holli Fourniquet on how she packed up the Chevy Suburban for their trip across Texas.
Enjoy the ride!
