I drove the Rivian R1 Quad last week, in both its SUV and pickup truck form, and walked away thinking it’s the best EV on the road.

That’s a bold claim, I know. But after driving the second-gen Rivian up a rock face, I’m pretty convinced: with a crazy good range, lots of capability and livingroom-like comforts, this might be the best EV on the road. Rivian didn’t just imagine a rugged, go-anywhere electric vehicle—they actually built it, and it’s as wild as it sounds.

Here’s why I loved the Rivian R1 Quad—and why it’s worth the splurge:

  • It’s the only EV you can buy with four motors—one for each wheel 😲
  • The horsepower is ridiculous (I won’t spoil it, but you can check it out here)
  • It handled hairpin turns and sheer rock walls like a boss
  • The interior? Just as impressive—loaded with top-tier features

While this type of off-roading and electric driving isn’t for everyone, neither is one of the most popular trucks on the road today.
