When my son announced he was getting married—in two days!— I wanted it to be perfect. Cadillac stepped in to help.
One thing I believe whole-heartedly is that in life, change happens, and it is how we handle those things that really matter. My son, Lee Scott, is in the military and I am so proud of him. When Lee dropped a last minute wedding bombshell on my lap, the 2015 Cadillac Escalade was a match made in heaven.
As a corporal in Italy, Lee has done well for himself given what our family has dealt with since he joined the military in 2011. He was shipped off to boot camp right after his dad, James, was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma brain cancer.
Being my only son (I have a daughter who is 26), it was so painful to see him go; yet I was so proud of his desire to serve our country as his dad had served in Vietnam. He made it through boot camp and though my husband’s health had started to decline a bit more, he was adamant in taking the trip to watch our son graduate in Fort Benning, Georgia in early 2012.
As life would have it, that trip would be the last one my husband was able to make; he succumbed to cancer in July of 2012.
It was a devastating blow for our family and more so for our son who had just left a week earlier to serve his first tour in Afghanistan. He came home for the funeral, but had to return to Afghanistan to complete his tour and grieve in a war zone.
Lee completed that mission and several others, and during his time away, he reconnected with his high school sweetheart Alicia. He proposed and they decided they wanted to get married in 2015. He came home for a visit, arriving on July 12th.
During our awesome family celebrations, he dropped the news that they decided to move up the wedding. To July 15th.
Chicago, military newlyweds and a Cadillac Escalade
I was excited and nervous. How do we plan a Chicago wedding in just 48 hours for two young lovebirds with limited finances? I was concerned, too, because my car was on its last wheel, and I did not want to worry about their special day being ruined by a car that could die at any time.
In the midst of the madness, Cadillac came to the rescue!
The morning of my son’s wedding a black Cadillac Escalade pulled into my driveway. I was super excited to festoon it with tiny decorations to chauffeur the wedding party.
Needless to say, the day could not have been more amazing, nor life any more unpredictable: a few days after the wedding I broke my ankle. Luckily, we still had the Escalade and I was able to get around comfortably.
The Escalade is one amazing vehicle: spacious, comfortable, convenient and sexy, and I loved driving it– and having it rescue me!
Our Cadillac Escalade driving experience
Comfortable for big families. The Escalade is extremely roomy and comfortable. There is plenty of leg room for taller people and quite a bit of cargo space in the back.
The Escalade rides like a dream. It is very smooth and glides over any humps or bumps. There is a lot of horsepower (420) with a V8 engine and 6.2L of pure driving power.
Great safety features. For road trips, the safety alert features, including a lane departure buzzer that warns you when you go over the yellow or white lines on the road or of potential dangers from the left or right. This feature is excellent for anyone that may drive tired, because you will know if you really need to take a break when your seat buzzes too much.
Keyless entry and push button starter. I was spoiled by the keyless entry and push button start. It is a nice feature to set the heat so the Cadillac can be nice and warm when you are ready to go in the winter or set it to cool in the summer.
Entertainment. The acoustic Bose sound and Blu-Ray DVD system was amazing. It featured a front 9” screen and an additional drop-down screen for rear passengers; it has individual settings and acoustic headphones.
My granddaughter loved watching her Dora The Explorer movie. We loved that she was entertained with the headphones on so we could have adult time.
Luxurious Seating. The plush leather upholstery is luxurious and heated seats in the second row make back seat passengers feel pampered.
Sticker Price. The 2015 Cadillac Escalade ESV is a top-of-the -line luxury vehicle and doesn’t come cheap. Pricing starts at $72,970 for the base model and if that’s your flavor, you will not be disappointed—with the driving experience in your new Cadillac Escalade.
Disclosure: Cadillac provided the 2015 Escalade for my test driving experience; I was not compensated and opinions expressed here are all my own.
