Prime Day Deals: Travel Gear For Holiday Road Trips

Of course Prime Day — October 8th and 9th— is intended as a pre-holiday shopping opportunity, a time to get those hard to find toys and hot gifts early and also save money.
But, nah.
We’re shopping for ourselves and our cars in anticipation of holiday road trip travel: Thanksgiving with the cousins, Christmas at the grandparents, New Years with our besties. If we’re lucky, there’s a beach stopover on one of those trips and a ski house on the other, and if not, those will be on our Winter Break road trip list.
Here’s what’s on our Prime Day shopping list.

Update the Kiddos Car Seats on Prime Day!

We’ve fallen in love with rotating car seats. Leave the littles in a rear facing car seat longer while still being able to turn the seat to buckle them in and to pass by to the middle seat or the 3rd row. These are simply brilliant and we need one. Or one for everybody.
This one is $262, 25% off on Prime Day!

Infant Travel System: Baby Car Seat and Stroller

We love that this set is matching and it’s not black. You have a choice of gray, tan or pink with a nice light gray interior. The baby seat has an anti-rebound bar and the stroller has large tires, 6 modes including a flat carriage, forward or outward facing stroller, can be replaced with the baby seat and there’s storage underneath.
This travel system is $256, a 20% discount on Prime Day.

Doggy Car Seats Make Travel So Much Easier

My pup wants to sit up where we are and he likes to be comfortable. So a car seat is ideal. We put ours in the middle seat between the kids, which they love, and so does Eli. Make sure your doggy car seat can be attached either via a seatbelt or to the seat’s lower or upper tether, just like a child’s car seat, and that you can secure your dog via a short leash to the collar or harness. The last thing you want in an emergency is your dog either getting injured or just as bad, running away in fright.
There are many options in the $30-$50 range, and most are on sale on Prime Day!

Wireless Headphones Will Save Your Sanity

You know those wireless headphones that came with your car’s entertainment system…yeah, those that were lost about a week later, or stopped working, or got stuffed in a pocket along with a juice box and a package of Goldfish? Well, maybe it’s time to replace them.
There is a large selection of well-priced wireless headphones that you can connect to your in-car system or, to a tablet or phone. Then, let the kiddos watch their favorite Minecraft videos while you binge every episode of the What Drives Her podcast.
Here are some great ones, priced from $20.
Window Shades Will Keep the Car, and the Kids, Cool

We love it when a new car is clever enough to come with built in sun-shades, but not all do. Luckily, you can add your own sun shades to rear windows; some are held in place with suction cups, others simply latch onto the glass and lower with the window and yet others are designed to cling to the window. Either way, these will keep everyone cool and the sun out of everyone’s eyes. Priced from $10.
Isn’t It Time for New Luggage? Thank You, Prime Day!

There was a time when new luggage was an indulgence — expensive and not really all that convenient. No longer. There are lots of travel systems that come with several matching bags that have extra pockets, spinner wheels and tote bags, priced from $100+. Now you can can pack the kids in one bag, yourself in another and still have room for dirty laundry and extra neck pillows.
The toughest choice is go with the beautiful sea foam green, a chic beige with brown trim or a silver hard-sided bag.
Travel Blankets Make the Trip Fly By

When I see my kids heading out of the house with their favorite pillow and blanket in tow, they’re turned right around to return them to the house. A blanket with its own case that folds and stows neatly in the trunk is our travel choice. It can wait neatly until it’s needed, and its cozy fleece is just the thing for snuggling in to watch a movie or fall asleep. Priced from $15 and yes, on sale!
A Travel Pillow Is a Neck Saver

Just like that travel blanket that stows well and saves your household linens from the rigor of travel, a good pillow is a must, too. We like the neck-saver pillows, but there are traditional style options too. Either way, these smaller, easy to pack pillows will save your household pillows from being ruined or lost on the road. Priced from $12.
While the idea behind Prime Day is to get things early and at a discount, isn’t travel the best gift? And a well-prepared car makes that gift even more memorable.
