Chevy Equinox EV vs. Chevy Blazer EV: How to Tell Which Electric Car Is Right For You
In the last few months, Chevrolet has rolled out two very important new electric cars—important to buyers who want an electric SUV: the Chevrolet Blazer EV and the Chevrolet Equinox EV. There are a lot of similarities and some big differences. And there are some things in both that convince you that this EV is right for you.
Both have some great advantages: They are built on GM’s Ultium battery platform, charge fast, go far on a charge, and qualify for federal and state incentives. Both are outfitted with renewable and recycled materials, have good storage, and have flexible space for passengers and cargo.
Both have great technology, with a large 17” multimedia screen and a built-in Google system that is now the standard for GM cars and trucks. But Apple CarPlay or Android Auto are not offered in GM’s EVs, as GM does not support that technology in its electric cars. Here’s what else you need to know.
The Chevy Blazer EV is Sportier, With Rear Wheel Drive or AWD Options
Priced from $43,690 for the LT AWD model to $48,670 for the rear wheel drive RS model, AWD is a trim, not an option, and it is actually priced lower than the rear wheel drive model.

The Equinox EV Is Designed To Let You Shop Budget Options
Priced from $43,292-$46,795, buyers can add AWD to any model for $3,300. Keep in mind that AWD not only adds cost but also a second motor and more power, increasing power from 213 HP to 288 HP. Later this year, there will be a base model 1LT with a price of $34,995.

The Blazer EV Delivers The Power of a Sports Car
The Blazer EV continues the sporty feel in the driver’s seat with good and great power. The LT AWD model is the starting point for power, delivering 288 HP. The RS rear-wheel drive delivers 340 HP, though it’s also available in AWD, which puts out 288 HP. In the near future, we’ll see an SS version that will generate 557 HP.
The Equinox EV Is Powered for City Driving
With a more sensible approach to power—and efficiency—the Equinox EV offers two levels of power: front wheel drive, which delivers 213 HP, and AWD, which delivers 288 HP.
The Chevrolet Blazer EV Is Built To Go a Bit Further
The Chevy Blazer has a slightly longer electric range, 324 miles in the rear wheel drive model. The AWD model has a range of 279 miles.
The Chevy Equinox EV Goes a Good Distance Too
The Equinox EV has a range of 319 miles in the front wheel drive model and 285 miles in the all wheel drive model, delivering slightly more miles in the AWD model and nearly as many in the front wheel drive model.
Blazer EV Is Longer and Looks Roomier
The Blazer EV is 192” long, has 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat and rear seat legroom of about 39”. It’s roomy, but actually not a lot larger than the Equinox EV.
The Chevy Equinox EV Is a Bit Smaller, But Only a Bit
It dials in at 190” long but has more cargo space: 26.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats. And rear seat space is very similar: 38” of legroom in the back seat.
The Blazer EV Offers More Options
From premium sound to head-up display, you can add packages and more to get the Blazer EV you want.
The Equinox EV is Packaged to Give You What You Need
There are 3 levels of LT, or luxury touring models, and 3 levels of RS, or rally sport models, to choose from. Each level adds a few more features and luxuries, though, at some point, you might compare the top-trim Equinox EV with the lower-trim Blazer EV.
The Blazer EV is Long and Lean
This is where it really breaks down for me: The Blazer looks longer and leaner. The rear tail lights and front end give it a more bullet-like shape, and even though it’s only marginally larger than the Equinox, it feels bigger.
The Equinox EV Has an Undeniably Sexy Shape
I think it’s in its slim shoulders, the way the wheel wells pop out over the wheels, and the subtle lilt to the rear end. The Equinox EV just looks good.
All this is to say, if you’re just shopping for looks and space, it’s a tough choice. But if a daily city driver with lots of space and a price that leaves room for other things in the budget appeals to you, the Equinox EV is a great choice.
If you’re drawn to every curve in the road and love the feel of instant acceleration underfoot, the Blazer EV could be your next love.
