USED: An Affordable 4-door Sports Car: The 2019 Kia Stinger

Kia Stinger

Yes, you can get an affordable 4-door sports car.

And it’s family-friendly, so you can bring the kids along for the joyride. I’m talking about 2.0L Turbo 255 horsepower AWD. The 2019 Kia Stinger is the FUN and SPORTY sedan for families.

I’ll admit, it took me one day of driving the Stinger before I fully appreciated its ‘sting!’ I’m used to driving SUVs and larger family vehicles. Therefore, sitting low on the road is not something I do too often. But give me a day and a sports car, and I’m a whole new woman. Well, maybe that’s going a bit far, but I do have to say I loved the drive.

Kia Stinger Headlights

Family-Friendly and Fast

Its tight handling and punchy acceleration make me feel like I’m lighter than anyone else on the road. I had to pull back a few times as I was driving the Stinger when I suddenly realized that I was speeding on suburban side streets (oops!). If you’re in the market for a sports car but still have kids to haul, the Kia Stinger may just be the right fit. It’s fast, fun and family-friendly.

Kia Stinger

How Much Is it?

The price point for a used 2019 Kia Stinger can suit almost any budget starting at around $28,990 USD ($38,900 CAD) with the 4-cylinder 2.0 L Turbo engine at 255 horsepower. You can also jump up to the GT and get the more powerful V6 turbo, pumping out a whopping 365 horsepower. This is the one I’d go for if I was going to buy the Stinger. In the US, the V6 engine option started around $32,900 USD when it was released, although you can find a used GT for much cheaper now. AWD is also an option.

Kia Stinger Lifestyle

The lines are clean and simple, yet the interior is spacious enough for four full-size passengers. Not all of the air intake vents on the hood and front side body of the vehicle are working vents. Some of them are just there to add a sportier element.

I’ll Take the GT Please, for the Faster Engine

If I were to buy the Stinger, I would upgrade to the GT for a V6 Turbo, 365HP engine, the Napa Leather and Brembo brakes. I imagine this trim’s upgrades would make it an absolute thrill to drive. Not to mention, a sunroof comes on the GT models in both the US and Canada. I love a sunroof, especially on a sedan where it can feel a bit closed in.

Kia Stinger Driver Cabin

Clean and Lux Lines for Comfort

The interior cabin is very comfortable with chrome and clean black finishings. The attention to detail is luxurious. However, at the same time, the t-bar gear shift has that sports car feel. It’s a bit old-school, which I loved.

Kia Stinger Outward Visibility

Not Your Typical Sedan, she’s a Sporty One

The very first thing I noticed when I sunk into the Stinger for the first time was the narrow rear window, making outward visibility notably less than what I’m used to. Again, driving a large SUV most of the time makes me biased to upward and outward visibility in vehicles. If you’re used to driving a pick-up or SUV, this will take some getting used to.

Kia Stinger Rear

The Driver is the Star of the Show Here

Sorry kids, this is Mom’s time to shine. With only one USB charger and a 12V charger in the back, plus no rear zone climate control, the rear passengers aren’t exactly spoiled. Still, they’ll have enough space for basic comfort. I especially liked the center console cup holders for my kids, but only when I don’t have all three of them with me.

Shoulder Check View

You Can Install Car Seats in this Sportscar

You can see that the car seat latch slots are covered but easily accessible, so you can have two Latch car seats in the back seats. As you can see from this view, the shoulder check visibility is fairly clear while looking back over the driver’s shoulder.

Kia Stinger Trunk Space.

Decent Trunk Space

The trunk is not big, but about as large as you would think in a Sportback. The rear seats do fold down in a 3/4 split, so you can fit longer cargo in the back should you need to.

4-Door Sports Car

Ready to Be the Cool Mom?

The Kia Stinger makes for a surprisingly sporty family car and works perfectly if you’re looking for something a bit more fun to drive. Maybe you’re not into minivans or SUVs, or maybe you only have one kid (or two) and prefer a sporty ride. I can tell you one thing for sure, the Kia Stinger is one cool mom car.
