See the All New Ford Explorer and Explore Fabulous New Cars at the Detroit Auto Show

2019 Ford Explorer

2020 is going to be a great year!

Excitement for the 2019 Detroit Auto Show started early with the introduction of the 2020 Ford Explorer at Detroit’s Ford Field. The Ford family of employees and fans came together to see the debut of this completely redesigned SUV, the best selling 3-row SUV in the country.

The new Explorer features more space, power, and technology, but it’s the mission of the redesign that is most striking: To help its owners get off the road and find adventure, to offer a respite from our screen-driven lives, to be a haven for precious family and friend time.

Our cars have become the key to these things; they both connect us to our digital lives and enable our adventures. This is the mission of the Detroit Auto Show: to showcase the possibilities and let us see and try these great new technologies before we head to a dealership for a test drive.

Smart Tech Makes Driving More Comfortable

Ford rolls out its most advanced tech in the new Explorer. The idea is to give the driver a better, safer experience to reduce stress in traffic and enhance time in the car. The infotainment system starts with an 8-inch digital touch screen, standard on all models and upgraded to a 10″ screen in the top of the line Platinum edition. Ford’s Sync3 system offers apps, Apple Car Play, and WiFi that will connect up to 10 devices so the whole family can plug in on the road. Other great tech features include a wireless charge pad, up to 4 USB and USB-C ports and the option of a premium B&O sound system.

Smart technology also works to assist the driver, with features such as adaptive cruise that automatically slows down when traffic is sensed, centering the car in its lane, cruise control, navigation and cameras that read speed signs.

In the 2020 Explorer Ford is also introducing CoPilot360, a suite of driver assist safety features that will be standard on all models. These include:

  • Pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, with pedestrian detection and forward collision warning
  • Adaptive cruise control with road sign reading ability; you can set the system to adapt the car’s speed to the posted speed limits (and reduce your risk of getting a speeding ticket!)
  • Blind spot detection with cross-traffic alert
  • Lane-keeping system that keeps the car centered in the lane
  • Rearview camera with built-in lens cleaner
  • Auto headlamps with auto high-beams

The Explorer Has An Apple Catcher

A what? Yes, they call it an apple catcher: A lip at the opening of the cargo floor keeps items from rolling out of the car when you open the liftgate. “Explorer customers need it to do certain things,” said Craig Patterson, Ford SUV marketing manager.”They need to be able to drive certain places and haul specific items,” from apples to backpacks and more, as we rely on our cars for both our daily lives and our planned adventures.

Thoughtful Details and More Capability is Why Ford Calls this the “Best Explorer Yet”

A tray for back seat passengers that will fit a tablet. More leg room and head room in the third row. Child car seat LATCH  hooks for every seat, not just the center row seats. More cargo space behind the third row and a reversible cargo floor with one side that can be easily removed and washed off. Center row seats that slide and tilt with the push of a button. And up to seven drive modes for all terrain and weather conditions, and a new rear wheel drive system that will improve MPG, tow capacity and the overall drive experience.

But we might say the best part is that Ford added many standard features but kept the price steady, increasing the 2020 model price by $400 over the 2019 model, which starts at $32,365.
