The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X Is the Truck You Never Knew You Needed
Sometimes, after a certain amount of time living in the city, an urban resident can lose touch with nature. And, after days and days of looking at concrete and buildings, that city dweller might yearn for the exact opposite of what they see in everyday life. If this has ever happened to you, I want you to know that the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X is a great fit for the country girl in us all.
A Much Needed Roadtrip
My son and I woke up early on a Monday morning and started the trek to East Texas. As the high-rise buildings began to fade in the rearview mirror, replaced with wide open fields and the towering pine trees that make up the Piney Woods, I begin to question why I even live in the city.
As I drove the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X for my adventure in the country, I began to regret that I sold my truck a few months ago. I must have forgotten how much I enjoy slow evenings watching the sunset over the pond, getting a little mud on the tires, and sitting on the tailgate to fish.
Of course, the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X, which has a starting price of about $77K and is powered by a V8 engine with 420 horsepower, isn’t just for cruising down country roads. As much as I dream of owning land deep in the heart of Texas, I sure do love and appreciate the convenience of a city. My trip reminded me that I can still take a drive to the lake that’s a few minutes from my house and let out my inner country girl.

Who Is This Truck For?
As we get into the thoughtful details of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X, you’ll see why this truck appeals to such a diverse group of customers. There are so many things to love about it, and many things that will appeal to those who enjoy modern features, family adventures, or considerable strength.
The Tech Lover
The 15” head-up display is an underrated feature on this truck. Seeing the larger head up display, which projects key information onto the windshield in front of the driver, makes me wonder how I ever drove without this feature. It’s prominent, yet not distracting.
You can connect to wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, or use the Google software for maps and the voice-activated Google assistant. Just set the wake word and then say “hey Google” and the system wakes up to listen to your commands.
All controls are within grasp and the 13.4” premium multimedia system is easy to navigate. The 12.3” driver information center is impressive, and controls on the steering wheel make it a breeze to change the display.
One of the features that we took advantage of was the MultiPro tailgate. A multifunctional tailgate that consists of a primary gate, hinged like a conventional tailgate, and a smaller inner gate. The inner gate allows you to stand 9” closer to the truck bed floor – making it easier to climb in and out as well as load cargo.
The tailgate also has built-in Kicker audio that can be connected via Bluetooth or USB ports. It operates independently from the truck and the engine does not need to be running for the audio to play.
For the Adventure Seeker
With its premium floor liners, you can get mud on your boots and not have to worry about cleaning them off before getting back in the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X. The 33” mud-terrain tires complete the rugged look of this truck. Combine them with the 11.2” ground clearance, and you are set to enjoy an afternoon of off-roading. The running boards and skid plates give the truck added protection while on rough terrain.
We took a break from driving, backed up right up to the lake, and fished from the tailgate. I enjoyed not having to unload our gear or set up chairs in the shade.
For the Power Hungry
You instantly feel the power when you first start the engine; it has a throaty purr, just like a sports car. It doesn’t take more than a little pressure on the gas pedal and you take off instantly.
I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth this truck is when driving. It’s rugged and has a great towing capacity. But what sets 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X apart from the others is the 2” lift and ultimate DSSV Dampers – also known to us non-technical people as shocks. This is what kept the ride nice and smooth instead of making everyone in the vehicle bounce around.
The enhanced engines provide 20% more torque than the previous model. It now has 420 HP and 430 lb-ft. of torque, with towing capability of up to 7,100 pounds.
A Few Other Details
The cabin in the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X boasts full-grain, leather-wrapped power massaging front seats, real wood trim, a large middle console with plenty of storage, and a 12-speaker Bose Premium Series audio system.
I loved that the side mirrors are well placed. I’ve noticed that some trucks have side mirrors in awkward locations that can cause blind spots. This is not the case with the GMC Sierra.

What This Truck Costs
This pickup truck is priced at $81,010 with all the deluxe features. The 1500 AT4X price begins at $77,500.
This price, power, luxury interior and smooth ride may be better suited for a city slicker than a country girl, but it’ll certainly inspire a ranch dreamer like me, even on days when I’m content with city life.
