Packing as much as possible: in a vacation and in the 2015 Nissan Altima.
Whenever I come down to the Lower 48 from Alaska, I try to pack in as much as I can into each and every trip. When I knew I was going to be in New York for BlogHer, I checked to see where my brother Rick was on tour. This summer he was on tour with Paul McCartney and would be in Buffalo, NY, the same time I would be there. Awesome!
Every summer I try to see him somewhere around the US, otherwise I would only see him at the holidays. Last year, I did a road trip through the South and saw him in Nashville with Paul McCartney. This year – the Stones!!

I would drive six hours across New York to the far western part of the state to see him. I love to road trip and this time I was going to be test driving the 2015 Nissan Altima sedan.
Picking up my new ride
The Nissan Altima was the perfect choice for a long road trip as it has a ton of room, lots of cool car tech, and drove oh so smoothly. I haven’t driven a sedan in well over 10 years as I have a smaller, sports-like car, so I was looking forward to trying out something completely different. This car could easily fit 5 people in it – the backseats were spacious and quite comfy.
I picked up the car from JFK and when I got the keys I just looked at them because they surely were not like my keys at all! With these, you don’t insert them anywhere. It was quite comical watching me try to figure out how to turn the car on! I kept pressing the start button but wasn’t pressing the brake at the same time. The dashboard finally told me what to do.

I took a minute and checked out the car’s tech scene. I downloaded the NissanConnect app and I was pleasantly surprised to see the route I had just looked up on my phone popped up on the car’s dash. It also integrates with your text messages, Facebook, and Twitter. One thing that was cool to see is that it wouldn’t let you respond to anything if the car was in motion. Great safety feature to keep your head on the road.
One thing that I noticed was this little orange light that would come on near the side mirrors. Anytime a car was in my blind spot it would illuminate orange. If the car stayed there for more than a couple seconds, that light would start blinking. If you were just passing a car it did not light up. Totally loved this feature!!
What I Loved
- All the tech. And I do mean ALL the tech. It was what I was most curious to see, especially in a new car
- Hands free phone calls and listening to my text messages
- 38 miles to the gallon!! It had an easy to read mile indicator that told me exactly how many miles I had to go. At 75 miles it would pop up that it needed more gas
- Sirius XM radio and Pandora were used quite a bit through rural Pennsylvania and New York
- Really big trunk that has a safety pull feature in case you get locked in the trunk
- Very comfy leather seats that were roomy and curved just right
