Oscar Red Carpet: Ditch the Typical Black SUV
The award season ended with a bang at the 91st Academy Awards. Aside from the awards, many armchair critics revel in seeing what the celebrites wear on the infamous Oscar Red Carpet. This year did not disapoint with some fabulous statement gowns.
The typical arrival vehicle to the Oscar red carpet is a huge black SUV. Boring! We were happy to see flagship sponsor Cadillac roll out new colors and luscious details befitting the red carpet when the new Escalade made its debut.
But what other models are a natural complement to red carpet couture? We’ve paired some of the top Oscar fashions with the cars that flatter their gorgeous looks. In a sea of men in black tuxedoes (with a few exceptions), the women win the style award hands down this year.
Janelle Monae: Genesis GV80
Ms. Monae arrived in one of the first outstanding dresses to grace the red carpet. This stunning Ralph Lauren number worn turned heads right away. Adorned with a draped hood and open back, the gown sparkled with more than 168,000 Swarovski crystals. We think she’s look amazing stepping out of the new Genesis GV80, in silver, of course.
Renee Zellweger, Cynthia Erivo & Scarlett Johansson: Lexus UX
More silver, white and sparkle took center stage for these lovely Academy Award nominees. We think all 3 could carpool We in the luxurious Lexus UX
Renee Zellweger – The time Academy award winner for her role in Judy looked stauesque in this custom Armani Prive one-shoulder white gown. Made of sequened covered silk, this gown exemplified understated elegance at it’s best.
Cynthia Erivo – Ms. Erivo, nominated for best actress in the film Harriet, wore a white Versace ballgown with a one-shouldered asymetric bodice and thigh-high side slit.
Scarlett Johansson – Nominated for her role in Marriage Story, Ms. Johansson wore a silvery satin gown with a fridged scuptured bodice by Oscar de la Renta. The bodice dripped with strings of sparkle.
Brie Larsen: Vintage Pink Cadillac
Ms. Larsen looked spectacular in this caped CELINE gown by Hedi Slimane. Another sparkling masterpiece in light pink with more than 120,000 sequins and 110,000 glass beads.
Kaitlyn Dever: Tesla Model S
Ms. Dever, from the movie Booksmart showed that fashion can be sustainable. Her Lous Vuitton dress was made from Tencel, an eco-friendly fiber. Ms. Dever was a well received pop of color. What better car to pair her with than a red Tesla Model S electric sports car.
Mindy Kaling: Lexus LC 500
Amid the collection of farely muted tones on the Oscar red carpet, Ms. Kaling stood out in this yellow stunner by Dolce & Gabanna. Isn’t her stement necklace is to die for?
Geena Davis: BMW X6 M
Of course someone has to where classes black. Ms. Davis showed off her ageless beauty in this Romona Keveza gown. The deep neckline bodice and semi-sheer skirt were adorned sequence created a magical shimmer. Who doesn’t love a gown with pockets? We see Ms. Davis in a classy BMW for sure.
Billy Porter: Rolls Royce Ghost Zenith
Mr. Porter may not be on a “Best Dressed” list, but you have to respect the royal influence of this look. Said to have been inspired by Kensington Palace, British designer Giles Deacon created the baroque-style skirt and royal bodice. We think the Rolls Royce Ghost Zenith is the perfect pairing to this look.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Acura MDX
Ms. Louis-Dreyfus looked elegant and timeless in this flattering navy gown by Vera Wang. She proved that sometimes staying simple can still take you breath away. We love her in this classy blue Acura MDX.
What do you think? If you were a celebrity stepping out on the Oscar red carpet what would you want to drive?
