GM Powers Detroit: Electric Vehicle Plant Upgrade
Chevrolet Volt and New Electric Vehicles Drive Investment
GM announced a $449 million investment to upgrade two Detroit area plants. The upgrades demonstrate General Motors’ commitment to hybrid and electric vehicles, and the city of Detroit. The upgrades focus on batteries and equipment used to make the Chevrolet Volt and two future electric vehicles.
According to General Motors North America Manufacturing Vice President Gerald Johnson, the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant money will upgrade tooling and equipment, while the Brownstown Battery Assembly investment is for the next generation of lithium-ion battery production and future battery systems.
