Although my two boys are old enough for booster seats, it wasn’t so long ago that they were in car seats. My oldest child is only eight, but the Britax B-Agile infant car seat and stroller system I used back then feels ancient and outdated compared to the modern car seats and strollers. I was genuinely amazed by the advancements in just a few short years—but I was most surprised by the Britax Galaxy360.

While I was at the Chicago Auto Show, the Britax team revealed their new, innovative, rotating convertible car seat: the Britax Galaxy 360 (which, interestingly enough, made it the first car seat to be revealed at an auto show). And I was instantly imagining how much easier it would have made infant and toddler life with my two boys.

It’s not cheap, starting at $429.99, but it’s worth every penny. While standing next to the curious parents and grandparents, here’s what else I learned about it.

This story is 100% human-researched and written based on actual first-person knowledge, extensive experienceand expertise on the subject of cars and trucks.

It’s Engineered to Be Installed Correctly, Each and Every Time

Britax car seats are known to be one of the easiest to install due to their ClickTight technology. The base has a clearly labeled seat belt path and you click the seat down into the base (onto the buckled belt) to install it quickly and easily. The seat will automatically tighten and lock the seat belt into place for you. I had the pleasure of meeting Nancy Heaton, President Commercial Americas at Britax, while at the auto show and observing her discussion with other “What Drives Her” panelists about developments in passenger & child safety.

She emphasized that Britax wants to instill confidence in parents and caregivers that they are installing the car seat safely and correctly every time. Designed to instill confidence and reduce installation mistakes, the Britax Galaxy360 has a tether indicator that can be used in both rear-facing and forward-facing modes. The red colored indicator will be raised and prevent the seat from rotating until the tether is secured tightly enough for the indicator to lie flush with the seat and no longer see the red indicator, allowing it to rotate 360 degrees.

The Galaxy360 has a shocking feature I’ve never seen before. With the press of a button, the auto-opening QuickStand lifts and holds the seat upright while you’re installing it, which means you’re not wrestling it against the vehicle seat. It’s one of the coolest features I’ve seen for a car seat.

A Rotating Base Means the Britax Galaxy360 Grows With Your Baby

The most defining feature of the Britax Galaxy360 is the rotating base. It rotates a full 360 degrees with one hand. If you’ve ever tried to buckle a wiggly toddler while leaning into your minivan at an awkward angle, you already understand why that matters.

The new Britax car seat rotates on a steel ring and uses a wheels-on-steel design so it glides instead of jerking or sticking, and it feels effortless. You can spin the seat with one hand, from either side of the car seat, giving you the ultimate flexibility for which position in the car you install it.

But it’s not just for babies, either. The Britax Galaxy360 is a 2-in-1 convertible seat that starts rear-facing from 5-50 pounds and transitions to forward-facing from 30-65 pounds when your child is ready. As always, I’ll say this as both a mom and someone who writes about family vehicles: rear-facing as long as possible is the safest option. Britax strongly recommends riding rear-facing to the highest height or weight limit, and I love seeing brands emphasize that. The seat comes with a 1-year warranty and can be used for up to 10 years.

A Rotating Seat Means It’s Easier to Reach All Seats in the Car

This is the pain for families with two kids in rear-facing seats: The rest of the seats in the car can be difficult to reach without uninstalling a car seat. But a rotating car seat eliminates that issue: turn it forward facing, let everyone climb in, then spin it around to face the rear. The Britax Galaxy360 makes that even easier with a one-hand function; just push the button and pull the tab on the side of the seat and it rotates easily. The Galaxy360 is on the narrow side so it should leave enough room between outboard seats for a middle-seat passenger, and it certainly leaves enough room to reach the pass-through to the 3rd row.

The Design is Slim, Making it Usable in More Cars

The base of the Britax Galaxy360 is only 17” wide, making it pretty narrow and slim. If you drive a 3-row SUV or regularly juggle multiple seats, you know that a slimmer footprint matters because it gives you more wiggle room.

It helps maximize back seat space without sacrificing comfort or safety and that’s the sweet spot for parents. The car seat and the base fit flush with each other, and the surface stays flat while the seat rotates—so you won’t have crumbs or flying goldfish crackers or gummies hiding in the car seat base that need to be vacuumed, whenever you can get around to it.

The Ingenuity Doesn’t Stop There

Britax really thought of everything, from a removable machine-washable cover to soft dishwasher-safe cupholders. The Britax Galaxy360 is truly innovative and impressive, especially for the price. For families who spend a lot of time on the road, a rotating seat like the Galaxy360 isn’t just a “nice to have.”

It’s a back-saving, time-saving upgrade that makes everyday car life feel a little less chaotic. It will be available for purchase this March and comes in 3 trendy colors—Teak, Raven Black, and Pebble. When it comes to our most precious cargo, there shouldn’t be any compromises, and that’s what Britax carried into this car seat.
