The “shopping local” equivalent for buying a new car is buying from Detroit’s Big 3.
Now, not every car sold by these American brands will be made in America, but you can rest assured that the Big 3—General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis (formerly Chrysler)—have the big American family in mind. So, to make your car browsing process a little easier, we’ve put together a list of the best family cars made by these brands to give you a jumping-off point. Whether it’s an SUV or a minivan, we’ve got you covered!
1. 2021 Chevy Suburban
Big family? Chevy’s got your back. The 2021 Chevy Suburban is all that and more. With a 15-inch heads up display for the driver, an 8-inch instrument panel screen, and a 10-inch infotainment and nav screen this makes driving a cinch, and could you ever get lost!
Not all GMs are credited equally. My husband keeps telling me that we need a Suburban. I keep telling him we don’t—it’s too big for just the three of us. Well, okay, we do have three dogs, and one is a huge black lab. But I do like the room in this Suburban. If you have a large or steadily growing family, this is a great option for you!
2. 2021 Chevy Trailblazer AWD RS:6
The 2021 Trailblazer is a perfect example of a small car for a small family. This 5-seater gets great gas mileage, and whipping in and out of parking spaces is no problem. The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer AWD RS:6 comes equipped with everything a parent needs, even a plug outlet in the back for the kids to use for their electronics. Chevy thought of everything for this one!
What I love about the Chevy Trailblazer are its sporty look and the color red, but the dual sunroof takes the cake. Everyone in the car can enjoy the sun beaming down or the night sky full of stars.
3. 2021 Cadillac Escalade
Luxury meets workhorse, as Scotty puts it. The new 2021 Cadillac Escalade has had a gorgeous makeover, and it makes a powerful statement for the modern family. The Escalade keeps its traditional look on the outside, but on the inside, a redesigned dash will make you feel pampered. If you’re ready to drive around in the lap of luxury, you’re going to want to opt for the Escalade.
That green color caught my eye, and doesn’t it make a statement? WOW!
4. 2021 GMC Yukon XL
Need a vehicle capable of hauling heavy loads? No problem. Haul a boat for family-fun on the water, or haul an RV for a long road trip—the newly redesigned 2021 GMC Yukon is ready for your family adventures. The Yukon is already big ,but the XL is even bigger with the growth of over six inches in length. Plus, the third-row seats now have a more natural seating position so your passengers won’t have to sit up so straight.
You’re definitely going to want to check out more of what Kristen is saying about this hauler. She makes it sound irresistible!
5. 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle
Minivans are cool, and the bigger the better in my opinion. They can haul it all on the inside! The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica is a family car to the max, and this year they added more luxuries, like the redesigned look of the leather seats…and those Nappa bolster pillows are the bomb.
I’m one momma who doesn’t mind driving a minivan. I can’t say I’ve ever owned one, and I can say I’ve driven only one, but I loved it. Talk about roomy! It was really a nice vehicle to haul it all and the kid! Don’t ever let anyone make you feel bad about efficiency!
6. 2020 Ford Expedition
So much to love. The 2020 Ford Expedition is the perfect vehicle for family road trips. You can fit your whole family, the dogs, luggage, and all the extras. Your dream road trip with everyone occupied doing their own thing has arrived!
I especially love the extra cargo space you’ll get if purchasing the MAX because I am one that will stop at the sign of a garage sale if I spot a gem (or even just to stop and browse). Being prepared for that next vintage piece of furniture and having a space to put it in is makes me a happy camper.
7. 2020 Ford Edge ST
So, perhaps your family grew by one and you need a bigger ride, but not too big. We found that the 2020 Ford Edge ST is a very suitable SUV for small families. This Edge is a smaller version of a large Ford SUV, but don’t underestimate it for its no ordinary SUV. See what Lillie has to say about that!
While not everyone is looking for vehicles from the big three carmakers, these are excellent choices for consideration.
