The 2027 VW ID. Buzz Is Back and This Time, Outfitted for Camping!
Get excited because the 2027 VW ID. Buzz is making a massive comeback with better tech and YES—finally!—it comes with camping features.

You aren’t alone if your heart broke a little upon hearing that the VW ID. Buzz didn’t have a 2026 model. Production was paused and this caused many of us minivan fans to develop anxiety hoping it would not be discontinued. But luckily, the charming electric microbus isn’t dead.
Better, it will return for the 2027 model year with a new camping trim level and that’s charging our batteries.
This story is 100% human researched and written based on actual first-person knowledge, extensive experience and expertise on the subject of cars and trucks.
We Fell In Love With the ID. Buzz For Its Unboring Approach to Travel With the Crew

Its distinctive retro style and iconic heritage has meant serious trouble for rivals that also seat up to seven passengers. But the competition is heating up; the Chrysler Pacifica just got a facelift, and the Toyota Sienna is expected to be redesigned for 2027, which should help both of them compete against the love bus.
However, the VW ID. Buzz will still stand out for all the reasons we love it: It’s a rare electrified option while the Sienna is a gas-powered hybrid and the Pacifica just dropped its plug-in hybrid powertrain. And, it’s much larger than three-row electric SUVs like the Kia EV9, which don’t have the convenient features that bus life has to offer.
The 2027 VW ID. Buzz Makes Its Comeback—Again

We welcome the VW ID. Buzz back to our shores with open arms. Many of the A Girl’s Guide To Cars team have either driven or spent time with this microbus, only to have it amaze us with a spacious interior and lavish amenities (standard massaging front seats anyone?!?). The 2027 model is expected to arrive at dealerships by the fall of 2026.
What will it cost when it gets here? We’re not sure what to expect. With the way things have been going with EVs in general, prices and demand are down. This is where things were headed when the ID. Buzz debuted in America last year; sales lagged and stiff competition from rivals like the Kia EV9 made us wonder if there was enough interest in the revived bus to make it feasible. Then, the federal EV tax credit of $7,500 came to an end, tariffs increased prices, and supply chain constraints created the perfect, expensive storm.
Pricing for the 2027 model hasn’t been released, and the 2025 model had an MSRP ranging from $59,995 to $70,540. With all tech and feature upgrades in the 2027 ID. Buzz, we might see a price increase for all the extra goodies. Or we might see prices hold firm, at least in the base model. Either way, folks who love the ID. Buzz’s style and charm have been vocal about needing it to come back, and once it arrives, it will be better than before.
What is the 2027 VW ID. Buzz Tourer trim?

The 2027 VW ID. Buzz Tourer is a new trim level that’s designed for camping. It turns the microbus into a camper van, providing a cozy place to stay for adventurers. The Tourer adds window blinds for privacy, ventilation panels for airflow, and a mattress that easily folds out of the way. It also improves campsite comfort and convenience with outdoor chairs and a table.
With the new ‘Overnight’ mode, you can enable the van to provide overnight privacy. Also, this trim level features captain’s chairs, a retractable tow hitch, an electrochromatic smart roof that frosts over with the touch of a button and 20-inch dark graphite wheels with black accents. The trim level is based on the “Good Night Package” that was previously only available in Europe.
We don’t have all the specs yet, but VW says that the mattress is large enough for two people. Also, the tall roofline should allow you to (sort of) stand up inside the bus. Pillows and bed linens are included to add to the charm. But best of all, the shades act as blackout curtains for a dark and private sleeping space.
Note: Yes, we did say tow hitch. The ID. Buzz can tow up to 3,527 lbs when properly equipped with AWD.
What Else is New for the ID. Buzz?

The 2027 VW ID. Buzz is a bit smarter than before, thanks to the implementation of the brand’s newest infotainment software, ID.6. Reportedly, it features a new navigation interface on the home screen with faster response times.
It should be easier to adjust interior settings with the touchscreen as well. Also, you can use the new app store to download third-party apps such as Spotify or YouTube. Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto still comes standard.
Plus, a NACS-to-CSS adaptor is now standard, meaning you get access to the massive Tesla Supercharger network. But, I must say, I find that the Rivian charging stations are often the fastest and are less crowded. Last but not least, 4MOTION AWD is available on more trim levels, including the entry-level Pro S model.
How Much Range Does the 2027 VW ID. Buzz Have?

The real-wheel-drive 2027 VW ID. Buzz has an EPA-estimated range of 234 miles. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive models have about 231 miles of range. Real-world tests with highway and stop-and-go travel show that it can achieve 220 to 260 miles on a single charge thanks to regenerative brakes.
Kim Smith explains, “The 91-kWh battery gave us just enough range to get from New York to Hartford. We pulled into the parking lot knowing we’d need to find a charging station before heading home. It’s the kind of range anxiety that comes with EV ownership, especially on longer family trips. The 231-mile EPA estimate sounds generous until you factor in highway driving, climate control, charging devices, and other real-world conditions.”
Both configurations use a 91-kWh battery pack. With the use of a DC fast or level three charger, you can recharge the battery from about 10 to 80% in about 26 minutes. With an AC or level two charger, it takes about 7.5 to 11 hours to fully recharge the batteries. The time of day and outside temperature may impact its speed.
Also, with a regular 120V household outlet, it takes between 30 and 40 hours to fully recharge the batteries. This is best for emergency situations if you don’t have access to faster charging methods.
We should learn more about the 2027 ID. Buzz before it arrives, and we won’t keep it to ourselves! We can’t wait to get behind the wheel, and out to the campground, to test out its new and upgraded features. I think a little overlanding is in my future.
