I don’t think anyone has ever used “extra” to describe me but let me tell you: the 2020 Lexus LC 500 brought something out in me that I didn’t know existed. The Lexus LC 500 is not your average car and you definitely don’t feel average when you’re behind the wheel.
Luxury at the Right Price
The Lexus LC 500 is definitely in the luxury car category. However, it’s not in the unreasonably priced category. The luxury touches throughout – like the butter-soft leather interior and upgraded trim remind you that this is no basic ride…but at a starting MSRP of $92,000, it’s not out of reach financially for many car buyers.
And yes, while that price tag is most certainly not chump change if you’re budgeting for a luxury sports car, this one might please your pocketbook.

I tell ya, there aren’t many life situations where Dr. Seuss’s quotes don’t apply. I like to think if Theodor Geisel were in the market for a car in 2020, he’d definitely consider this car.

Who is this Car For?
Obviously, this isn’t your everyday mom car (although I do love the idea of rolling up in the carpool line in this beauty.) I can just see the looks of envy on the other mom’s faces.
- Couples who want that “extra car” – and in this case, “extra” would mean a car in addition to your everyday car. Most families are going to want or need something a little more roomy and practical to meet the demands of everyday life. My husband and I took this car on our anniversary weekend away at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa in Bastrop Texas (near Austin) and it was the absolute perfect car for this trip.
- A single person who doesn’t have the need to haul a lot of stuff or people around. While there is a back seat, it would be very uncomfortable to ride back here for anyone except a very short person and that is with the driver and passenger seats scooted nearly all the way up.
- Anyone who feels the need for speed (totally a Top Gun reference) and has the budget for a luxury sports car.
When you buy a luxury sports car, attention to detail is important. I loved the Lexus logo on the handles when they’re in their “unlocked” state. The handles sit flush against the side of the car when locked for a very sleek look. ?JILL ROBBINS
What You Need to Know About This Car:
- Fuel economy: An average of 19 MPG (16 city and 25 highway.) This car is nice and light and is a nice change from the larger family people-movers I’m used to driving. The great gas mileage is a nice perk but who am I kidding? The best part is the “dazzle” factor. But, she’s more than just a pretty face.
- The Lexus Safety System includes a pre-collision system with pod detection, all-speed dynamic radar cruise control, lane-keeping assist, steering assist, and lane departure alert. You also have a blind-spot monitor (which was one of my favorite features) and radar cross-traffic alert. Yes, you’re dazzled by her looks but this car has some solid safety features and top-of-the-line technology.
- As I mentioned, the starting MSRP is $92,000. The model pictured here runs $106,954, delivered. It has some extra options, such as upgraded alloy wheels, premium sound, and the Performance Package, which includes sport seats with 8-way power adjust, carbon fiber roof, active rear steering, variable gear-ratio steering, and speed-activated rear-wing.
- This car is just plain fun to drive. Yes, she’s sexy and extra and a head-turner but driving this car is an experience you won’t forget. If you’re looking for something that really injects some joy into your driving experience versus moving you from one place to the next, this is it.

What I Loved About the Lexus LC 500:
I’ve gone on a lot about the way this car looks, so I’m going to share some of the other features that make the Lexus LC 500 a standout for me.
- Comfort. This is a very smooth and sleek ride and we took it over some bumpy back roads on our way to Bastrop from San Antonio.
- The beautiful sound the engine makes when you start the car and when you accelerate. This has a 5-liter V8 engine with 471 horsepower and it about brought tears to my eyes.
- It’s truly a joy to drive. I know I mentioned that part already but the fun factor is really a selling point for me.
- The paint color options. You see “Flare Yellow” here but there are other choices if you don’t want such an “in your face” statement color…although for me, that was part of the fun. There are nine other options for paint colors, including a red and a really pretty blue called “Nightfall Mica” which is probably what I would pick if I were custom building this car for myself.
