What’s Bigger and Badder Than a Raptor? The 2020 Ford Tremor F-250, of Course!

While the Ford Raptor is great for leaving the pavement, it’s been engineered for desert racing and as such is a light-duty truck that is less likely to sink in the sand. But those of us who like roaring through dirt, mud, and creek beds know that we need a little extra weight and power in the classic off-road environment. So in 2020, to please the off-road crowd, Ford introduced the 2020 Ford Tremor off-road package, available on both the F-250 and F-350 trucks and can deliver up to 475 horsepower and a crazy 1,050 torque in the diesel, or a more normal 430 horsepower/475 torque in the V8 gas engine. The Tremor has an entry level price of about $52,000 and the model we test drove came in at about $82,000.

What’s So Special About the 2020 Ford Tremor?

While it may look like any other F-250 from a distance, a closer look at this F-Series Super Duty Tremor will reveal some grit- and power-inspired Tremor badging, 35″ all-terrain tires and a higher stance so you can ford up to 33″ of water, bigger shocks for a smooth ride over all those bumps, and upgraded running boards.

The new Tremor package pairs off-road capabilities with the towing and payload that Super Duty owners have come to expect from these trucks. It’s a perfect marriage between a 9-5 work truck and an off-road adventure vehicle you can enjoy on the weekends. Get ready to disconnect the camper or boat and put rock-crawl mode to work as you leave the pavement behind. Use trail control for a safe, controlled descent down the mountain, and still enjoy a smooth and luxurious ride home on the highway.

There’s only one question left: Do you want gas or diesel? The Tremor package is available on the XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum trim levels on F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks with either a 7.3-liter gas V8 or a 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine.

My Heart Did a Happy Dance when this 2020 Ford Tremor F-250 Pulled into My Driveway

As a girl who loves truck — especially the three-quarter ton segment — I looked forward to getting to drive this new off-road equipped pickup. Due to time constraints and weather, I never got a chance to take this one off-roading, but I did enjoy a full week of highway and country road driving in this beast. We used it to pick up dozens of bales of straw to mulch our garden, delivered flowers to shut-in friends, transferred all the food and decor for a baby shower I hosted, and found every excuse we could to get out and drive.

I loved the familiarity of the F-series, the work-hard attitude of the truck, and that extra punch of power. I also enjoyed the giant mirrors for trailering that give you so much confidence because you can see so much more! (I’m convinced every big truck should come with these!) While I’ve driven everything from the F-150 to the F-450, the F-250 has always been my favorite. It feels just right.

Everything You’d Expect From an F-Series

Comfort, capability, and family approval — this truck has it all. The interior of the F-250 Lariat package isn’t as luxe as the King Ranch, but you still get leather seats and all the creature comforts like heated and ventilated seats, 10-way power seats, a massive panoramic moonroof, and plenty of space to charge all your devices. And being a Super Duty, it comes ready to tow with a whole host of tools to make trailering easier, from giant mirrors to backup cameras, sway control, a fifth-wheel tow package, and more. We love how roomy these trucks are, even with all three kids lined up across the back seat.
