What We Loved About It
I loved that it was nimble and easy to maneuver with plenty of space for four passengers plus ‘stuff’. If you don’t need more, you don’t need more! For this price point, the elevated drive position (versus a sedan) and active safety features plus AWD were great for making me feel safe at all times.

What do you Get for Your Money
Starting at only $20,920 USD and $21,045 CAD, it’s a fantastic vehicle with plenty of features and functionality for this price point.
To up the basic model with automatic transmission and AWD, it jumps to $26,365 CAD which is a significant jump, but I would want these two options for sure, especially for all-season driving here in British Columbia, Canada.
In the US, the manual transmission isn’t available but to go from FWD to AWD on the base trim, it’ll cost you $1,400 USD.
The base Sport trim (or GX in Canada) includes a 148 horsepower 4-cylinder engine, automatic headlights, and 16″ wheels. It also includes power windows and door locks, air conditioning, cloth seating, and Mazda Connect.
The I-ActiveSense package adds a whole host of advanced safety features for $1,100 USD or $1600 CAD, including:
- radar cruise control
- smart brake support
- pedestrian detection
- lane departure warning
- high beam control
- adaptive front lighting (turns with you)
- LED headlights, automatic climate control
- rain-sensing windshield wipers
- active driving display (head-up)
The trim up is the Touring (GS in Canada) model starting at $22,475 USD and $25,365 CAD for front-wheel drive. Again, the jump to AWD is likely worth it, depending on where you live and drive, at $1,400 USD or $2000 CAD.
Again, the i-ActiveSense package is extra.
The $25,745 USD for the Grand Touring (GT in Canada) front-wheel-drive model. The GT in Canada is only available in AWD and starts at $33,065 CAD. As on other trims, AWD is an additional $1,400 in the US.

What You Need to Know
- For all trims, the destination and delivery fee is $1,045 USD and $1,895 CAD.
- The fuel mileage is a reported average of 31.5 MPG or 7.5 L/100 KM. I actually got 8.3L/100 KM (28 MPG) over the 250 kilometers I drove.
- The electronic parking brake is new for CX-3
- In the US, it’s the #6 selling Compact SUV
