Most car sales since 2006 – what will 2015 bring?
As automakers gear up for the 2015 North American International Auto Show, starting next week in Detroit, they have reason to smile. Despite record recalls, car sales were up almost across the board.
As usual, the number one selling vehicle was the Ford F-Series, though Ford was paradoxically one of the few car makers to see a decline in sales. But this was likely due to the Ford plant shutting down for a few weeks to retool while the new aluminum F-150 transitioned in.
Another full size pickup truck, the Chevrolet Silverado, saw an increase in sales of almost 36% from a year earlier, according to a chart published in the New York Times. General Motors was up over 19%.
The New York Times chart also showed a strong finish for the third US automaker, Fiat Chrysler, recently renamed FCA US LLC. Sales were up 20%.
Once again, the Toyota Camry was the number one selling car.
