The 2017 Detroit Auto Show: See How You’re Changing The World

Detroit Auto Show
The Automobili-D expo at the Detroit Auto Show will showcase how the auto industry is driving changes in technology.

This is more about you than ever.

Every January the Moses’s of the auto industry gather at the mountain— Detroit. Yes, Detroit in January seems counter-intuitive unless you really love bitter cold, snowy weather.

[Disclosure: AGirlsGuidetoCars has partnered with the Detroit Auto Show, Hyundai and DriveUsingSteel to produce this event and giveaway.]

But this isn’t about the weather. It’s about an industry that is the engine of our economy and our future. An industry that employs millions of Americans and drives some of the most important innovation on the earth. One that proudly upholds glass-ceiling breakers, risk takers and game-changers as its heroes, that celebrates innovators, outliers and those who keep its foundation rock solid.

We’re excited to be a part of THAT Detroit Auto Show.

Detroit Auto Show
Attendees at the Detroit Auto Show will get to take a closer look at the luxe offerings from Genesis, the new luxury brand from Hyundai.

Yes, there will be some exciting news that will come out of the show (keep reading; there’ll be some great news, especially if you’re into advanced technology, want to be among the first to try autonomous driving or simply need a great new car).

For so many years the auto industry was exclusive, aloof and hard to crack, especially for women, minorities and anyone who wasn’t an insider. But around the millennium the industry started to get real about its future. Then, the recession fast-tracked that need.

Now, the auto industry is on the forefront of not only transportation technology, but tech as a whole; auto companies are pumping billions of dollars into research, innovation, talent development and more, and leading the discussion in forums, think tanks and investment communities around globe.

Why this is about you more than ever: you buy, you advise and you influence

When the industry started its soul searching, they focused on some undeniable truths: women buy or influence the purchase of 85% of all cars and light trucks. Millennials will shape the future of the industry with their values and rule-breaking ways (and guess where they got those ideas? From their moms!). 70 percent of the world’s population will live in cities by 2050, driven of course by Millennials who want to be close to work, friends and family).

You probably already know this, or intuitively know it to be true.

Some things — good things— that never change

Detroit Auto Show
Kia’s teaser video shows the shape of what’s to come–a rumored entry into the sports sedan segment.

But there are deeper stories, too. The backbone of the industry hasn’t changed. Cars will still be the primary way people get around (even if you don’t own or drive the car that carries you) and the industry is still focused on the fun of driving, utility family or work vehicles, increased efficiency and sustainability and ensuring that you’re safer than ever.

AGirlsGuidetoCars and a group of top Detroit-area influencers will be at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, or officially the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS for short) to chronicle the news and events that will shape the year to come in autos. Join us on social media by following us @AGirlsGuidetoCars and the hashtag #DetroitLovesAutos.
