Start Them Young: BMWs For Toddlers

Toys R Us drives kids down luxury road, with ride-on BMW i8.

Designer strollers, Tiffany spoons and bespoke layettes are de rigeur in certain well heeled urban areas and suburbs, but now there’s a new fashionable toy to knock Little Tykes out of the playground; a BMW i8 ride-on.

The Avigo BMW i8 Ride-On, features the i8’s signature butterfly doors, that actually open. The toy car also boasts working headlights and horn and engine sounds.

Like the sporty plug-in hybrid, the plastic version is battery operated, and the toy has a battery life indicator along with  a working MP3 connector with speakers. There is no cruise control, but the car can actually go 2.5 mph both forward and in reverse. Rubber traction strips help keep the child safe (no airbags or seatbelts, though).

Because we seemingly can’t travel anywhere without a beverage, here are cup holders for sippy cups.

In a strange way, the car is sort of a bargain – unlike an $800 Bugaboo stroller or $4,000 Silver Cross pram, the toy is a mere $219.

Oh, and that realistic, drive-on-the-highway version? Starts at $136,500.
