Rear View Mirror Make Up Tips: Secrets for an All Day Glow

With light this great and so many mirrors, your car is the perfect place for a touch up.

What Is In Your Console? If You Are Prepared, You'Ll Always Arrive In Style
If you are prepared, you’ll always arrive in style

“Personally, I love putting on my makeup in the car because of the light– it is the best light,” says Scotty Reiss, founder of A Girls Guide to Cars.

“But, of course, I only apply when I am the passenger or parked – never when I’m moving or at a traffic light!” she emphasizes.

I can safely say that most of us are on the go all of the time. And for automotive gals who are test driving vehicles at press events, we need small sized containers and makeup that won’t melt in an hour so we can tuck it in a pocket and always be camera ready. In other words, cosmetics that will go the distance and make us look refreshed and renewed even on a dusty, dirty track!

Red lipstick shows the world you’re confident

Holly Reich, contributor to A Girls Guide to Cars, Elite Traveler, The New York Daily News, The Washington Post, The Boston Herald and Motor Matters syndicate

Editors Note: About a year after this post published, Holly Reich lost her battle with breast cancer. Holly was a light in our lives, a force of nature in the car journalism world and unafraid to explore and demystify the car topics women feel are important but men ignore. We miss you, Holly.

In my kit I carry: Tide To Go stick, Refresh Tears, cleansing towelettes, Jergen’s Natural Glow for the Face and Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour cream (it works for everything including cuticles, lips, and dry skin).

My favorite lipstick: MAC Sheen Supreme Bare Again with a Maybelline nude colored lip pencil.

My under eye concealer: Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

My  eyeliner: I’m experimenting with MAC eyeliners and Milani liquid eye

My eyeshadow: MAC eyeshadow x6, a small rectangle of colors with a mirror

My mascara: Kevin Aucoin- the Curling Mascara—it won’t smudge one iota!

My favorite blush: Nars Orgasm, probably the most popular blush ever and for good reason: it looks great on almost everyone.

Buxom Lip Gloss makes your smile even more glowing

I take a very basic approach: a small group of products that I use daily, and for special occasions, I add a bit more or supplement with a flourish of eye shadow or a heavier brush of mascara.

My favorite skin cream: Bobbi Brown hydrating face cream —it’s juniper scented and smells like the beach

My face cream: Bobbi Brown Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer: leaves a beautiful non-shiny finish

My mascara: Bobbi Brown Extreme Party Mascara, when paired with a curler gives great definition

My lips: I love Buxom plumping lip gloss

My splurge: Chanel Sublimage skin creme, which has the most heavenly scent, but at $390 for a smallish jar, it truly is a splurge.

In Claudia’s makeup bag: Christian Dior Fall 2015 collection

I’m in love with the new Dior Fall Collection; the plum, and pink combination is incredible! I’m always on the go, so the size and practicality of Dior’s foundation and concealer are a must have for me! I was able to pull this look off, in my car, while hubby was driving me to the meeting where I was scheduled to present.

My favorite lipstick: Rouge Dior lipstick, a limited edition color collection

My eyeshadow: the 5 Couleurs Cosmopolite eyeshadow collection

My face: Dior Skin nude foundation

Eyebrows are the frame of the face; make sure yours are flawless

Jana Seitzer recommends Benefit’s Gimme Brow for perfect brows

I love great eyebrows, and Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel fills in your eyebrows in the most natural way you can imagine. It can add eyebrows where you don’t have them, can be used for penciling in or to create a more pronounced arch. My brow designer is incredible, and this helps me to keep my eyebrows looking great in between visits.

My favorite foundation: Mary Kay Mineral Powder Foundation, a weightless mineral powder foundation that goes on flawlessly and lasts all day. It gives you the coverage of a foundation with the lightness of powder. It’s my favorite! It can be used over a base foundation or alone, and you can’t beat the price: $20.

Clinique’s tinted lip balm makes touch-ups a breeze

Rear view make up tips: Kristin Shaw loves Clinique’s Chubby Stick

I don’t wear much makeup – usually a swipe of Rimmel kohl eyeliner, maybe a bit of mascara if I’m feeling fancy. However, every single day, I wear Clinique’s Chubby Stick Intense in Broadest Berry. Sometimes, it’s all I need. I’m almost 45 but feel 25, and I don’t require much of anything else.

Sometimes, it’s not just what you wear, but where you shop

Beauty Counter.com is Lindsay Munson’s favorite shopping spot

I’m in love with a line called Beauty Counter. I made the switch a few years ago to using as many all natural/non-toxic household and personal hygiene products as possible. The two products I can’t live without are the Dew skin tinted moisturizer and their color pinch cream blusher. I throw that in a mini cosmetics bag along with my eyelash curler/mascara, under eye concealer and lip gloss, and I’m good to go.

When I “go out” I tend to use a black eyeliner and a neutral eye shadow. I keep things pretty simple, and this makes my life easier when traveling, at home, etc. I find that the tinted moisturizer and cream blush stay on longer than the powder form and give me a more natural look. I am a new mom, so the under eye concealer is a must and probably my most essential makeup item!!

A great lipstick is your best accessory

Meagan Wristen, MommyTravels

I love my YSL lipstick from Yves Saint Laurent but I often find myself using the rear view mirror more than the bathroom mirror. With three busy kids in three different schools, I spend a lot of time behind the wheel. Sometimes things move so fast that a dash of lipstick is the only makeup I have time for, so I’m happy that it’s one I love.

If you wear nothing else, here’s the one necessity: glowing eyes

Rear View Makeup Tips Makeup Forever Hd Concealer
We love this: Make Up For Ever’s HD concealer not only hides your lack of sleep, but brightens your eyes all day long

I’m basically a drug store makeup gal. I do really like this under eye concealer that I found at Sephora called Make Up For Ever HD concealer. It does, in fact, last all day and brightens your eyes!
