Ford Mustang and OPI Team Up for Special Nail Colors

I expected to be impressed by the shiny colors at the New York International Auto Show – but I didn’t expect those colors to be on my nails. OPI and Ford paired up to create special nail polishes in honor of the Mustang’s 50th anniversary.

And on media day, a mini salon offered women – and several brave men – manicures and a polished new look.

Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, the Los Angeles based co-founder of OPI, spoke with me about her company’s second collaboration with Ford – they also partnered with the company for the relaunch of the Mustang a decade ago.

Suzi feels that nail polish empowers women through color, and notes that studies say female consumers make the decision on the color of the family car.

The Ford Mustang by OPI collection, in six limited-edition shades, debuts in July.

The colors include “Race Red,” which matches the signature Mustang red. This classic is what I chose. The other colors are all inspired by the iconic car, but they don’t match the finishes actually available. “50 Years of Style” is a gold that would look amazing with sandals (but pedis were not on offer). “Queen of the Road” is black, “Girls Love Ponies” is the perfect pink and “The Sky’s My Limit” is a sparkly blue.

If you have a commanding style, the white “Angel with a Leadfoot” is for you.

Suzi, who drives a Ford hybrid, said OPI is also sponsoring a giveaway with Ford, of a new Mustang. The giveaway, which will be announced in Cosmopolitan magazine starts when the nail polishes launch this summer;  follow @OPI_PRODUCTS and @FordMustang to find out how to enter.

Like a woman of a certain age, the Ford Mustang will not go gentle into the good night.
